Teeth Whitening Treatments

Teeth whitening is the removal of stains and discolorations from the enamel and dentin. The outer layer of the tooth is the enamel, and beneath the enamel is dentin. Enamel is thin and typically much lighter in color, while dentin is darker in color and makes up most of the tooth. Enamel can be discolored over time simply from age, but also from outside sources like coffee, tea, tobacco, and other foods and beverages. Also, as we age, our enamel thins, causing more dentin to show through, making the overall appearance of teeth look darker. Whitening your teeth can greatly reduce these stains and discolorations, giving you a whiter, brighter smile. There are several teeth whitening treatments that are available today and our practice offers excellent options yo achieve your desired results.

Take-Home Whitening Trays

Take-home whitening trays are a type of teeth whitening procedure that you can perform at the comfort of your home. This is an easy and cost-effective tooth whitening treatment that can be easily obtained. You must follow the instructions given by our dentist to see the results at home. Although they can be a convenient option, obtaining great results can take longer than other treatments and they don’t always work well for deep stains. These trays are custom made to go over your teeth and whiten your teeth through a special gel that is found on the inside of the trays.

These trays, once made for you, can then be taken home as a teeth whitening kit, along with the guidelines given by our dentist. The time that they must remain on your teeth can vary according to your teeth whitening needs.

Custom whitening trays are clear and are used in conjunction with a small dollop of gel, that is inserted in each tray which gives them their whitening properties. The gel consists of a hydrogen peroxide solution that actively whitens the enamel of the teeth.
After they have been used and are taken off, they need to be cleaned with a Q-tip or a cloth and rinsed. This makes them ready to be used again, although It is not recommended to use them for at least another day after each application.
These whitening trays can be used several times to achieve the desired results. Our dentist can further advice on whether this treatment is right for you.

Teeth whitening is a safe, comfortable way to get a bright, white smile. Results and treatment time may vary depending on the level of staining and whitening desired. Crowns, bridges, fillings, and veneers are not ways to whiten teeth. Therefore it is important that you speak with our dentist about options that provide effective results and are great for you.
